DIAGNOSIS

For your information, thorough diagnosis involves:

1. Review of patient's history to seek clues as to the duration and symptoms of the patient's illness.

2. Physical examination, including inspection of the nose. Such inspection is performed with fiberoptic endoscopes (see picture) that are made of flexible rubber or rigid steel tube to look inside the nose.

3. Depending on what is found during endoscopy, CT scan (computerized tomography) may need to be done. Now CT scans are ordinarily done because a much greater amount of information can be gleaned from the CT scan.

Endoscopy and CT scans are now done very commonly for sinus infections.
